The Department of Civil Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) proudly celebrates a remarkable achievement as one of its student teams secured 4th place in the Innovative Design Competition organised by American Concrete Institute (ACI). This accomplishment reflects the team’s strong dedication, creativity, and technical excellence in addressing real-world engineering challenges through innovative design solutions. Competing against numerous talented participants, the team demonstrated outstanding problem-solving skills and practical application of civil engineering knowledge, bringing recognition to both the department and the university.

Mentored by Prof A F M Saiful Amin, as the faculty advisor, the team’s success follows months of laboratory work involving refinement of theories and experiments using locally available recyclable materials, which reduced nearly one-third of the concrete self-weight. Ahnaf Tahmid, Md. Takbir Hossain Rudro, Mohtasim Sabab, Mohammad Rafiul Islam, Syan Ilham, Quazi Tajgir Tahmin Raevan, Nafisa Fairooz and Md. Hasibul Islam were the team members.

They also applied fiber-reinforced polymer reinforcement to develop corrosion-free and durable structural solutions. The team focused on applying fundamental principles of mechanics and concrete technology to design systems that reduce reinforcement costs without compromising performance.

Such success highlights BUET’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation, while inspiring future engineers to engage in research, creativity, and competitive platforms that contribute to professional growth and national development.
