Prof. Dr. Wahiduddin Ahmed had been a prominent academician of Bangladesh. He hailed from Chandpur district and was born on 1st January 1923. He obtained two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Dhaka and from Aligarh Muslim University in 1943 and 1947 respectively. He earned his master’s from the University of California Berkeley in 1950 and PhD from the University of Wales in 1962. He joined Dept. of Civil Engineering of Ahsanullah Engineering College in 1951 as an assistant professor. He pioneered in establishing Chittagong Engineering College (now Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology) and was appointed as its first Principal in 1967. He was appointed as the Director of Technical Education in 1972. He became the Vice-Chancellor of BUET in 1975 and served till 1983. From 1986 to 1992, he was the vice chairman of Council of BITs. He acted as an adviser to the interim govt. led by the then president Justice Shahbuddin Ahmed. Prof. Ahmed passed away on 3rd Nov. 2018 at the age of 95.

He was a fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences.

He was associated with a large number of voluntary organizations. He was secretary general, president and ombudsman of Diabetic Association of Bangladesh.

Dr Wahiduddin Ahmed played a very important role in the development of engineering and technical education in Bangladesh. Buet alumni express deep shock at his demise and pray for the salvation of his departed soul.
