ACI BUET Student Chapter Receives “Outstanding University Award 2022”
ACI (American Concrete Institute) Student Chapter at Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) has been honored with the prestigious “Outstanding University Award 2022”. This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone in our journey of academic and extracurricular excellence.
The official award banner was proudly handed over by Dr. Abu Siddique, the distinguished Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at BUET. The momentous ceremony was graced by the presence of the respected Professor Dr. Sarwar Jahan Md. Yasin, our esteemed faculty advisor, Dr. Rupak Mutsuddy along with the dedicated chapter executives.
The ACI Award for University Student Activities recognizes universities that have demonstrated exceptional commitment and participation in ACI-related activities and programs. We are humbled to be among the selected universities from around the world to be recognized with the “2022 Outstanding University Award.” This accolade reaffirms BUET’s dedication to nurturing a vibrant academic community.
Our university’s recognition as an “Outstanding University” is a testament to the relentless dedication and hard work exhibited by both our students and faculty members. This award serves as an inspiration for all members of the ACI BUET Student Chapter to persevere in their engagement with ACI activities and initiatives, as well as to uphold the highest standards of excellence in all endeavors.

2022
Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has achieved massive success in the recent 2022 American Concrete Institute’s (ACI) Concrete Solutions Competition that was held in conjunction with the ACI Concrete Convention in Orlando, FL, USA from March 27-31, 2022. “Team >BUET”, being the only participated team from BUET, has secured 3rd Place Winner (2nd Runners Up) in the ‘Most Innovative Design’ segment of the event across the globe.
2020
- Tahsina Alam (1504132) received the Honda Foundation Young Engineer and Scientist’s Award 2019. Honda Foundation Japan hosts this prestigious award for undergraduate engineering students with exceptional academic, research and extracurricular background all over the world. The award was first introduced in Bangladesh in 2019 and all four awardees were from different departments of BUET. They received a monetary award of $3000 and a Honda Dio motorcycle each.
2019
- Team BUET Ravenclaw including Tahsina Alam (1504132), Sagar Barua (1504183) and Humaira Anisa (1504161) achieved 1st position on the segment Poster Presentation of Civil Engineering Festival organized by the Department of Civil Engineering held at Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST). They presented a poster on ‘ Evaluation of Infiltration Rate from Soil Properties using Artificial Neural Network’.
- Tahsina Alam (1504132) secured 3rd Position in the Oral Presentation of the National Environment Olympiad , Art and Oral Presentation 2019 arranged by Department of Geography and Environment , University of Dhaka. She presented on the topic ‘ Potential of Vetiver Grass as a Heavy Metal Cleanup Tool’.
- Team BUET Ravenclaw including Tahsina Alam (1504132) and Humaira Anisa (1504161) achieved 1st Place in Buzzer Master in CENNOVATION 2019 arranged by Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Islamic University of technology (IUT). The quiz segment included written and stage rounds on Civil Engineering Knowledge.
2018
- Team BUET Ravenclaw including Tahsina Alam (1504132) and Adrita Jabin (1504159) became Champion in the Poster Presentation of the DUGEOEXPOSURE 2018 arranged by Department of Geology, University of Dhaka. They presented a poster on ‘Potential of Vetiver Grass as a Heavy Metal Cleanup tool’.
- Team BUET Chronicles including Tahsina Alam (1504132) and Sagar Barua (1504183) secured the position of Champion in Creative Canvas Competition of Eccentric: Civil Engineering Festival 2018 organized by Department of Civil Engineering, BUET. They presented a poster on ‘ Prediction of Unsaturated Hydraulic Conductivity using ANFIS, MLR and ANN’ in the Geotechnical Engineering Category.
- Team BUET Ravenclaw including Tahsina Alam (1504132) and Humaira Anisa (1504161) achieved 2nd Place in Buzzer Master in CENNOVATION 2018 arranged by Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Islamic University of technology (IUT). The quiz segment included written and stage rounds on Civil Engineering Knowledge.
2017
- Team BUET Ravenclaw including Tahsina Alam (1504132), Tabia Binte Farazi (1504003) and another student from BME,BUET became Second Runner-up in Francophonie Quiz 2017 arranged by Quizards and Alliance Française de Dhaka. It was a quiz competition based on French culture, literature and history.
- Team BUET Ravenclaw including Tahsina Alam (1504132) and Md Safin Shahriar (1504157) was awarded 1st Runners Up in the Poster Presentation of 2nd EW:B National Enviro+ Challenge 2k17 arranged by Environment Watch:BUET. They presented a poster on ‘ Energy Saving from Architectural Perspective’.
- Team BUET Ravenclaw including Tahsina Alam (1504132), Adrita Jabin (1504159) and Md Safin Shahriar (1504157) was awarded 1st Runners Up in the Poster Presentation Competition arranged by BUET Energy Club. They presented a poster on ‘ Going Green: Architectural Edition’.
2016
- Team BUET Ravenclaw including Tahsina Alam (1504132) and Md Safin Shahriar (1504157) was awarded Runner Up in Creative Canvas Competition of BUET-Anwar Ispat 1st Bangladesh Civil Engineering Summit 2016 organized by Civil Engineering Students’ Association(CESA). They presented a poster on ‘Future of Civil Engineering: Space Colonization’.
- Team BUET Ravenclaw including Tahsina Alam (1504132), Tabia Binte Farazi (1504003) and another student from BME,BUET achieved 1st Place at cineQ 2016 organized by Enliven Bangladesh. It was the first national cinema quiz contest.
- Tahsina Alam (1504132) secured 2nd position (University Level) in the English Olympiad segment at 2nd National English Carnival 2016 organized by Notre Dame English Club, Notre Dame College. The olympiad as based on English Literature and Grammar.
Civil Engineering Students’ Association (CESA)
The Department of Civil Engineering has the oldest and the most organized student body of the history of BUET termed as the Civil Engineering Students’ Association (CESA). It is a non-political, non-profit students’ association under the department of Civil Engineering. Its prime objectives are:

Encouraging co-curricular activities among the students through cultural programs, interactions with other on-campus clubs of BUET, etc.

Increasing interaction between the teachers and students through regular discussions with teachers and selected class representatives, talk shows etc.

Increasing interactions among students of different sessions through different activities.

Inculcating into the students the true essence of Civil Engineering and their role as engineers and motivating them towards the accomplishment of their goals.
Every undergraduate student of the department of Civil Engineering is a member of this association. This association does not operate with any elected student body from the department Rather the responsibility of its operation passes on from some selected students by the moderator of one senior batch to the other. Dr. Md. Mahfizur Rahman is currently the moderator of CESA.

Sports Achievements
- Professor Mizanur Rahman Cup Inter Faculty Cricket Championship: Faculty of Civil Engineering won all the championships except in 96-97 and 2001-2002 championships since 1991.
Debating Competition Achievements
- Runners up – Civil Faculty Team (Kamrul Hasan Shibly, Nahin Reza, Rumana Reaz), “Inter Faculty Debate Competition 2001”
- Runners up – Civil Faculty Team (Imtiaz Taher, Tanvir Ahmed, Nehreen Majed), “Inter Faculty English Debate Competition 2001”
- Champion and 2nd position in Baroari Debate – “Prothom Alo – Standard Chartered 5th Inter University Debate Championship, 2002” (Rumana Reaz, a participant of the BUET ‘Nandonik’ team.)
- Champion and 3rd position in Baroari Debate -“Inter Club Poribesh Bitorko, 2002” organized by NGO Forum (Rumana Reaz, a participant of the BUET Debating Club team.)
